The History of Washington, DC

President George Washington chose the exact site along the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers, and the city was officially founded on July 16, in 1790 after both Maryland Virginia ceded land to this new "district", to be the distinct and distinguished from the rest of the states.

 To design the city, he appointed Pierre Charles L'Enfant, who presented a vision for a bold, modern city featuring grand boulevards (now the streets named for states) and ceremonial spaces reminiscent of another great world capital, L'Enfant's native Peris.

 He planned a grid system, at which the center would be the Capital building.
You can probably guess that the "Washington" part of the Washington , DC was named after the first president of the United States, George Washington and DC stand for District of Columbia, named after Christopher Columbus.

National Mall : National Mall and Memorial Parks preserves more than one thousands acres of  federal parkland in Washington DC.

The Capitol : Here, the Senate House of Representatives come together to discuss, debate and deliberate national policy, develop consensus and craft the country's laws. It is located in DC, at the eastern end of the National Mall on a plateau 88 feet above the level of Potomac River.

Library of Congress : The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world, with millions of books, films and videos, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps and manuscripts in its collections. The library is the main research arm of the US Congress and the home of US copyright office.

Government Printing Office : The Government Publishing Office (GPO) publishes and distributes official government publications to Congress, federal agencies, federal depository libraries and the public.

DC hotels have implemented green initiatives, including wind power, renewable energy credits, recycling and adopt-a-park programs with neighborhood green spaces.
